Frequently Asked Questions
This is a list of questions that are frequently asked. The answers given are relevant to Point Cook Auskick.
Can girls play?
Girls are very much encouraged to join Auskick. In the past we have run an exclusive girls group for the first few weeks so the girls can gain confidence and get a feel for the game. Then after two or three weeks we have moved all the playing groups together.
How old does my son or daughter need to be?
The Auskick program is designed for "School" age players, i.e. you will need to be 5 by the 30th of April 2010, or they must be born before 30th April 2005.
What sort of boots / clothing do we need?
We recommend that for the first few weeks of the Auskick season the ground is generally to hard for football boots and most players get along just fine with runners. Most players wear their favourite teams football jumper.
What happens if it rains, hails, snows, or is very hot or windy? Will Auskick still be on?
Point Cook Auskick is always on rain, hail or shine. However if the coaches believe that the ground conditions are not suitable play may be cancelled. This decision will be made on the morning of the Auskick session at the ground.
Do we need a mouth guard?
At Auskick level the benefits that a mouth guard provides are negligible as the games are slower, tackling is not allowed and players cannot kick off the ground. However we still "highly recommend" that players get a mouth guard for the end of session games. The reason been is to get the players used to having to play whilst wearing a mouth guard.
My son or daughter is in grade 5. Can he/she still do Auskick?
Yes, the Auskick program is designed for players from grade Prep to grade six. At Point Cook we break up the playing group into three groups i.e. Preps, One and Two and Three to Six. This allows us to fit the drills to the relevant age group.
I would like to help out. What sort of skills / training do I need?
Auskick is run by the parents/guardians of the players, all you really need to help out is a willingness to get involved. We run a level 0 coaches course, and for the more experienced Mums and Dads the AFL also runs a level 1 coaches course.
Do I need a "Working with children check" if I want to be a coach?
Yes. All coaches will need to get a "Working with children check."
Before you can start we must sight and record your "Working with Children check" number. We recommend that you apply for this card at least 6 weeks before the start of the Auskick season. This should allow enough time for your card to be issued. Forms can be obtained from Australia Post.
My friend barracks for Collingwood. Will they be able to play Auskick?
Unfortunately the AFL will not let us discriminate against Collingwood supporters, so reluctantly your friend will be able to play Auskick at Point Cook. Although occasionally we do isolate the Collingwood players them into there own playing group.
